Iberostar Group has incorporated circularity in the reform of Iberostar Royal Andalus, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability
Scheduled to open in July 2020, the hotel uses sensors measuring the CO2 emitted in each area along with the water consumption. Waste management is optimized and state-of-the-art facilities are incorporated to minimize the use of natural resources
The reform accompanies the redesign of the hotel's health and safety protocols, directed and audited by the Iberostar Group Medical Advisory Board, to reinforce the care of customers and employees in the return to normality
Iberostar Group applies ambitious circularity policies in the reform of its Hotel Iberostar Royal Andalus (Chiclana, Andalusia), which it is looking to reopen in July 2020. The company thus delves into its responsible tourism model with a strategy focused on circular economy from the very beginning of the process when planning a hotel construction or reform.
The Mallorcan hotel chain begins all projects evaluating its environmental impact and seeking efficient construction and responsible management of its life cycle. This strategic commitment to circularity has been achieved in the reform of the Iberostar Royal Andalus (Andalusia) with measures such as:
The estimation of the CO2 emitted in the remodeling process, for its subsequent mitigation.
Waste management and traceability for reuse of materials. An example of this is the “second life” of the old wooden headboards from the rooms of the Iberostar Royal Andalus, which have been used to make derivatives of wood, such as chipboard, after their rightful transformation in a plant processor.
The incorporation of latest generation facilities to guarantee an efficient use of natural resources. In this sense, the company has given up traditional, single-use solar panels, installing hybrid plates that allow the generation of energy for electrical use and heating of water.
The addition of thermal protection in the renovated rooms for better insulation. Sensors have been installed to quantify the energy savings of these rooms compared to those without.
The installation of other measurement sensors in the facilities to monitor consumption. Iberostar Royal Andalus measures the CO2 emitted as well as the water consumed in key areas, among others.
Circularity constitutes the strategic center in the remodeling process of a hotel and indicates a firm step towards sustainability - and this is only the beginning of Iberostar Group's resilience strategy. We are convinced that our sector’s response to the crisis and its adaptation to the new scenario, lies in the development of a responsible tourism model. We are therefore continuously implementing short and long-term objectives deriving from our commitment to caring for people and the environment

Moreover, the company reopens the Iberostar Royal Andalus after reviewing all the health and safety protocols of its operations to ensure the care of its customers and employees. The Mallorcan hotel chain has created for this purpose a Medical Advisory Board made up of experts in Public Health and Health Security in the tourism sector, guaranteeing thereby the highest scientific rigor in these tasks.
