The Mallorcan hotel group is once again the main sponsor of the Trofeo Princesa Sofía for the 53rd edition of the regatta, which will turn the Bay of Palma into the world centre of Olympic sailing from 29 March to 6 April.
Iberostar Group repeats as title sponsor of the Trofeo Princesa Sofia in 2024, reaffirming a support that goes back nine years. The classic Mallorcan regatta will bring together in its 53rd edition more than 800 boats and 1,100 sailors from 75 countries in the Bay of Palma, including all the contenders for Olympic glory at the Paris 2024 Games. The best will be on the Sofia, and Iberostar's collaboration allows the organisation to provide them with the best service.
"Iberostar is an essential figure in the Trofeo Princesa Sofia Mallorca", explains Ferrán Muniesa technical director of the event. "Its incorporation in 2015 as title sponsor was a turning point in the Sofia's trajectory, and its unconditional support has allowed us to consolidate it among the most important Olympic sailing regattas in the world. The fact that it continues to be part of our family is good news not only for the regatta, but for the entire competitive sailing sector".
Natural relationship
The regatta and the hotel group enjoy a natural relationship. According to Muniesa: "Iberostar and Sofia have in common their Mallorcan origins, their promotion of sport and their unconditional commitment to the sea and sustainability. These shared values facilitate collaboration, help us communicate the message of environmental respect and bring credibility to our project".
Wave of Change
In 2017, the Iberostar Group created the Wave of Change movement as a reflection of a responsible and positive tourism model that cares for people and the environment surrounding its hotels. As part of its commitment, it promotes an ambitious roadmap that today reaches all areas of the hotel group's management. Amongst its objectives are the care of the marine ecosystems near its hotels and the gradual reduction of its carbon footprint until reaching zero emissions in 2030, a commitment that is 20 years ahead of the target set by the tourism industry.
In this regard, Muniesa recalls that "the Sofia has just received the certificate of Recognition of the Calculation and Compensation of the Carbon Footprint of its 2023 edition, which fits with the values of the Iberostar Group. From the event we will continue to take steps along this path, and knowing that we have the support of Iberostar allows us to move forward faster and for the message to reach a wider audience".
Sustainability in the DNA
Finn Ackermann, Chief Commercial Officer of the Iberostar Group, Group, explained at the official presentation of the 2024: “Our roadmap has a special chapter dedicated to the Trofeo Princesa Sofía, which is why we are once again supporting a sport as exciting as sailing, which shares our passion for the oceans and which drives us to increase the audience's interest in our work to spread the word about sustainability. Iberostar can no longer be understood without the sea, and the sea can no longer be understood without Iberostar. This pairing is so strong that all of us in the Iberostar family - more than 35,000 people around the world - are proud to support a purposeful and far-reaching project that amplifies our message to the world and promotes respect for our seas and oceans. Sustainability is in our DNA, which is not incompatible with offering the highest quality to our customers through a value-added tourism model. We are very excited to promote this regatta and share the message that together we can make the world a better, cleaner, healthier and more sustainable place".
Wave of Change is part of the sustainability programme of the Trofeo Princesa Sofia Mallorca by Iberostar. The event signed an agreement with Trueworld in 2023 to apply an action plan to neutralise its carbon footprint and will implement new initiatives in its 2024 edition in its determined advance towards the goal of zero impact.
The 53 Trofeo S.A.R.
