Iberostar Hotels & Resorts continues reopening with the addition of its properties in Portugal, Iberostar Selection Lisboa and Iberostar Selection Lagos Algarve – both recognized by Turismo de Portugal as 'Estabelecimento Clean & Safe' for meeting hygiene and cleaning requirements for the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic. With the inclusion of Portugal to the UK’s travel corridor, and with the intent to provide peace of mind and safe travels to all visitors at its properties, Iberostar Hotels & Resorts introduces Iberostar Extra Care, a medical insurance that protects visitors from the moment they check-in until they check out.

In Portugal, and across all its properties around the world, Iberostar has implemented more than 300 safety and health measures strategically recommended and developed by the hotel chain’s Medical Advisory Board  made up of health experts for the tourism industry. Some of the measures taken to ensure the safety of Iberostar’s guests include limited occupancy of up to 70%, advanced booking for entertainment experiences and family activities, greater distances between hammocks and furniture, and 24-hour e-concierge experience via Iberostar’s app for iPhone and Android devices.

Likewise, to give travelers additional peace of mind, Iberostar is offering Iberostar Extra Care Insurance, a medical insurance exclusively for bookings done via Iberostar.com and the company’s call center, free of charge. The medical insurance takes effect from the moment guests check in until they check out and covers:

  • Medical and surgical assistance if required

  • Extension of stay at the Iberostar hotel

  • Medical transportation service for sick or injured individuals

  • Emergency transportation to the hospital

  • Unexpected health-related travels back home

  • Medical dental costs

  • Expenses incurred by the accompanying individual during the stay in the event of hospitalization.

  • Expenses incurred during the accompanying individual’s stay at the clinic

  • Covid-19 health related symptoms and more.

These programs are a part of Iberostar’s How We Care initiative and in line with the Group's responsible tourism model and circular economy policies to ensure the highest levels of guest and employee safety without reducing quality standards. How we Care is based on four pillars: safe environment, hygiene standards, innovative experience and social spaces.

Wave of Change in Portugal

The Luz Restaurant at Iberostar Selection Lisboa has recently received the MSC/ASC custody certification, which ensures sustainable seafood. The certification is aligned with Iberostar’s efforts to promote the consumption of responsible seafood as part of its larger Wave of Change movement. The company is the first hotel chain in the country to have a restaurant with such certification.
