Iberostar Hotels & Resorts has been acknowledged among purpose-driven brands during the third edition of the 2023 Marie Claire UK Sustainability Awards winning the 'Travel & Leisure - Hotel Global Group' category.

The Judges awarded Iberostar for its circular economy strategy, actions to become waste-free by 2025, and its work to source 100% responsible seafood*. Judges were impressed with its decarbonisation plan to be carbon neutral by 2030, having reduced its carbon footprint by 10% in 2022, and employing AI to curb food waste.

It is a great honour and wonderful recognition of our efforts to drive a responsible tourism model. We want to consciously inspire and encourage other players to join efforts towards ocean conservation and the integration of the local communities. We would love to share this award with our 30,000 employees around the world, who provide us with innovative ideas and work every day to make Iberostar a more sustainable company

Megan Morikava

Global Director of Sustainability, Iberostar Group

A very strong application across all of the key markers, both internally with the business and wider impact in their environments and communities. Strong strategic plan, clear on their actions and good progress so far across the business. The work to educate and engage their consumers, particularly the next generation is an added feature

Charlotte Keesing

Director at Walpole

The awards are rigorous, asking businesses to supply evidence to back up all sustainability claims which were then reviewed and validated. Partnering with sustainability advisory Seismic, the awards were then assessed by a panel of over 50 high-profile sustainability experts, activists and the Marie Claire UK editorial team.
